Hi friend,
You will have heard me talk (or write) about this before but God made our brains sooo marvellously and wonderfully. They’re insanely awesome.
In a nutshell, our thoughts travel down neural pathways in our brains and if a thought is frequent, then the neural pathways associated with that become stronger and turn into highways for habitual thoughts. If a negative path is well-worn, your mind will default to it, it thinks it’s doing you a favour by saving time and reverting to however you thought about a situation previously. Actually not helpful when negativity is involved. But the good news is that our brains are ‘plastic’ meaning they have the ability to change! So if instead you repeatedly choose truth and start redirecting your focus to what’s noble and lovely, you will literally rewire your brain and forge new neural pathways.
Initially, it’s like bushwhacking a brand-new trail—awkward and slow. But the more you practice, the easier it becomes. Meanwhile, the old negative “highway” starts to grow over from disuse.
Practical Step: Identify one common negative thought pattern. Each time it appears, replace it with a chosen Scripture or phrase (e.g., “I am chosen and dearly loved,” Col. 3:12). Over time, watch that new path become the “path of least resistance!”
Believing the best with you,
Em
