This is a powerful and so-very-helpful piece from the always prescient Em Tyler. Amen, Em! Thank you. I'm totally stealing (I mean, uhm, borrowing) the "List-vs-Listen" bit!
So you've planted a camera in my home Em!! Fortunately I've become alert to the negativity of these behaviours and have learned to remind myself that most of the list is of no real significance!
Thanks for the nudge Em, a solid reminder to focus on my true priorities.
Recently, I was in my kitchen with tears in my eyes, baking the ‘essential Christmas cookies’, when God spoke so gently “ you are worried and upset over many things”. I need this study as I am a Martha!
Hugs and love to you Laurie. It’s such a lot to carry all these things, many of which matter to us so greatly. Have you read this Friday’s post on Letting go and lying down? I think it follows on nicely 💛
Thank you for this article Em. And thanks for the invitation to share our listening too. Here's mine from yesterday :
I placed an online grocery order on Friday. I could chose when it was delivered - Sunday or Monday? I was about to go for Sunday afternoon when I remembered the phrase I try to live by "essential work only on Sunday, it's for rest and worship". So I chose Monday for my delivery day.
On Sunday afternoon, I was journalling and suddenly had inspiration about prayer; how I sometimes struggle and what God's response might be. It was enlightening and helpful to me. I was tempted to type it up, editing and crafting it for Substack in case it could be helpful to others. Then I remembered - I wouldn't even have heard this if I hadn't set aside Sunday for rest and worship! So I left that nonessential work till today.
Now I need to get to work, editing and crafting... and clear the kitchen worktop to receive my groceries! 😁
I find that my 'faith-wanes' a bit, when I am sleepy/tired, or hungry (or both!!).
So then, when I take care of and align myself with the 'discipline of proper rest' and the 'discipline of proper nourishment', my spirit recovers and stays open to the directives of the Holy Spirit, obedience and the Lord's way.
Yeah, even though things are moving forward and I'm learning more and more to just be at peace with Jesus, I still have moments where I worry and wonder, yeah, but Lord....if this or this or that doesn't happen, then what, or I need to do this so that I can do what I want to do - instead of just letting go - LETTING GO so God can come in and fill the void or the need to make it happen on my own. Lord, help me to let you be God in my life and be completely surrendered to you and your will and your perfect plan and purpose for me, today and everyday moving forward.

Mmmm, I miss this from living in New Zealand where the sun was much more readily available to shine on my face. I'd often pop out in between tasks, shut my eyes, lift my face to the sky and enjoy the warmth of the sun. Vitamin D is the best 🤣

Hi Em, this message is so good!
Amen!
Absolutely! Me too. Love that you've reminded us all that rest and nourishment are spiritual disciplines.

Amen and amen.
One thing: Go sit in the morning sun !

.."from worry to wonder"..... Dang!
💛 thanks!
It's a whole prayer in and of itself though, right?!
It really is.
This is so lovely!!
Thanks Caroline!
