Hey friend,
It’s become a bit of a running joke in my family that whenever we’re travelling overseas I will always be the one stopped at airport security for the ‘extra checks’. I’m not sure what it is that makes me look so shifty, but guaranteed, I’ll be stopped.
Airports have these security checkpoints to keep out contraband. Obviously the airlines don’t want to let anything through that could be damaging or shouldn’t be there. Similarly, Paul gives the Philippians a “mental security checkpoint,” allowing only what’s true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy to pass (4:8). If the thought doesn’t match God’s standard of truth and beauty—it doesn’t get to stay.
Challenge: Next time a negative or critical thought surfaces about yourself or someone else, pause and evaluate:
Is it true?
Is it lovely?
Would this glorify God if spoken aloud?
If no—discard it. Over time, you’ll find more peace and less mental clutter. God’s promise? “The peace of God ... will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” (Phil. 4:7)
Keep going!
