"But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you." – Matthew 6:6
There’s a kind of reverence that shows up not in stadiums or on stages—
but in the stillness behind closed doors.
Not for applause.
Not for approval.
But because He’s worth it.
When No One’s Watching
It’s easy to worship when we’re surrounded by a crowd—when hands are lifted, voices are raised, and truth rings out from a stage or screen. In those moments, it feels natural to join in, to nod along, to quote Scripture because it sounds good and stirs something in us.
But what about the quiet moments? When the house is still, the inbox is full, and your soul feels... flat?
That’s where reverence meets us. Not out of routine or obligation, but from relationship. Not to impress anyone, but to encounter the One who sees us, even in the silence.
Jesus often withdrew to lonely places to pray (Luke 5:16).
He didn’t perform spirituality—He pursued the Father.
And He taught us to do the same.
Not with fanfare.
Not with filters.
But with faith.
Reverence says: God, You’re worth my hidden life.
Sometimes worship is whispered.
A quiet surrender.
A whispered "yes" when no one hears.
A song sung in the middle of washing up or walking the dog.
A heart bowed in awe when no one’s applauding.
It’s in those places that reverence roots deep.
So if today feels ordinary—if no one’s watching, no one’s clapping, and your faith feels quieter than usual—take heart. God sees. He delights in your hidden devotion, your whispered worship, your choice to seek Him in the stillness.
You don’t need a stage to encounter His presence. Just a heart that says, You’re worth it, Lord—even here.
May you find Him afresh behind the closed doors. And may your quiet yes become sacred ground.
I'm praying for you as you make space for reverence in the real and the hidden. You are deeply seen, fully known, and extravagantly loved.
A Prayer for the Secret Place
Father, draw me into the hidden place.
Teach me to worship without performance, to seek You without pretense.
May my reverence be real—when I’m seen, and when I’m not.
You alone are worthy.
Help me live that truth behind every closed door.
Amen.
What does your hidden worship look like this week?
How might you meet God afresh in the quiet?
Next week: Revere with your life—offering every moment back to the One who gave it.
Until then, may your secret-place worship overflow into everything you do.
In awe and affection,
Em
I probably spent 12 years playing keys in various worship teams for large churches before I had kids. I’m realising now that I don’t know the first thing about how to worship Him. So now I’m exploring that and asking Him to teach me, what does He want, what does He like?Music doesn’t come into it and I may never play again in a church but I’m honestly ok with that.
This is so good! My greatest moments of worship behind the keyboard have been me in a dark room with just God.
There's no room for preforming, no person to clap for my playing, just appreciating who God is.
The stuff on stage is great. I love that too. But there's something special about hidden worship. I think hidden is Holy.
