Receive | Grace for Today
"From His fullness we have all received, grace upon grace." – John 1:16
Some gifts come with ribbons and wrapping.
Grace doesn’t.
It’s poured out—abundantly, relentlessly, undeservedly. And often, we’re the ones holding back.
We know it’s good. We’ve heard the message a hundred times. But when shame lingers and perfectionism whispers, grace can feel like a gift we’re unworthy to unwrap.
But what if that’s the whole point?
Grace isn't for the worthy. It's for the weary.
It’s not a pat on the back; it’s a hand pulling you out.
It’s not a trophy for a job well done; it’s a lifeline for the one who blew it—again.
The Daily Grace Supply
D. L. Moody once said,
“A man can no more take in a supply of grace for the future than he can eat enough for the next six months… We must draw upon God’s boundless store of grace from day to day.”
We need fresh grace every day.
Not just the once-for-all saving kind, but the again-and-again sanctifying kind.
For the attitude we didn't mean to have.
For the thing we said we’d never do again.
For the days when joy feels far away and faith feels thin.
Grace meets us there.
Learning to Receive
Have you ever watched a small child try and carry too many things at once? They can be determined to “I do it”. This was one of my children once. He wouldn’t ask for help, he wouldn’t make two trips. And halfway there, everything toppled out of his arms.
Sometimes, we’re like that with grace, trying to carry things ourselves. Trying to earn what can only be received.
But the invitation of John 1:16 is clear: from His fullness—not ours—we have all received. All. Received.
Not achieved. Not deserved. Received.
When Receiving Feels Hard
Maybe you grew up thinking God loves you more when you behave better. Or maybe grace just feels… distant. You know it in your head, but your heart is struggling to catch up.
Here’s your reminder: God doesn’t give grace by the teaspoon. He lavishes it.
In Luke 15, the father of the prodigal son runs, embraces, and kisses him—over and over again. The original word for “kissed” there? It means to kiss repeatedly. That’s what grace looks like.
Over and over again, He comes running.
A Prayer to Receive Grace
Lord, I confess I don’t always know how to receive. I try to earn, to strive, to prove I’m worth loving. But today, I open my hands to the gift of Your grace. Thank You that I don’t have to be perfect to be loved. Fill me again from Your fullness—grace upon grace. Amen.
Is there an area of your life where you’re trying to earn God’s love instead of receiving His grace? What would change if you received instead of resisted?
If this encouraged you, would you share it with someone who needs to be reminded: grace is for today, too.
With you in the receiving,
Em
Thank you for sharing! This has been extremely encouraging!
