When stress, fear, or negativity hit, your amygdala (the brain’s fear centre) takes over, flooding your body with stress hormones before you even have time to think. That’s why, once you start spiraling, it feels impossible to stop.
But here’s a simple trick to reset your brain before panic takes over:
Pause and breathe deeply. Studies show slow, controlled breathing lowers cortisol (your stress hormone) and signals safety to your nervous system.
Shift your focus. Instead of spiralling, ground yourself in truth:
✔️ “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.” (John 14:27)
✔️ “Be still, and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10)
Try this breathing exercise now:
✔️ Breathe in for 4 seconds
✔️ Hold for 4 seconds
✔️ Breathe out for 8 seconds
✔️ Repeat 3x
