The Passion
Read: Matthew 2:1-6 | The King Born in Bethlehem
Seven hundred years after Micah’s prophecy, wise men from the east arrived in Jerusalem looking for a newborn king. But they weren’t led to a palace. Instead, they were pointed to Bethlehem:
"In Bethlehem in Judea," they replied, "for this is what the prophet has written: ‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.’" (Matthew 2:5-6)
The tiny town had fulfilled the huge prophecy.
Jesus’ birth in Bethlehem wasn’t a coincidence—it was a divine orchestration. Every detail of God’s plan was perfectly aligned. The census, Mary and Joseph’s journey, the timing—it all led to one exact location: Bethlehem.
The Messiah had come, and His birthplace proved His identity.
This matters because it shows us that God’s promises are always fulfilled. No prophecy is too detailed. No word of God is ever wasted. If He says it, He will bring it to pass.
Promise Fulfilled:
Jesus’ birth in Bethlehem wasn’t just a random fulfilment—it was a powerful confirmation of God’s sovereignty:
God controls history—orchestrating events to fulfil His word.
God is faithful to every promise—down to the smallest detail.
God’s ways defy expectations—bringing a King from the least likely place.
If God was this precise in fulfilling His promise about where Jesus would be born, imagine how faithful He will be to His promises in your life.
Respond:
How does Jesus’ fulfillment of this prophecy impact your faith in God’s promises?
Where in your life do you need to trust that God is working in the details?
How can you live in greater confidence that God’s word never fails?
God’s promises are not just ancient words—they are active, living, and unfolding today. He is always faithful.Trust Him in the details, and let that trust guide your life.
Praying for you as we walk through Lent,
Em

Interestingly, it's always the details of like that make me most anxious. Not 'what is that hospital appointment going to uncover?' but 'what if I can't find the right department for the appointment?' for instance. Which seems bonkers, but I wonder if lots of people are like that. Being reminded of God's control over even the small details never fails to be reassuring and grow my love for him!
This is wonderful that God looks at the most obscure, insignificant, hidden and smallest things that everyone overlooks and passes by, to make them into something great, and magnificent and displaying his power and glory. Because it could only happen by his power to make these things happen. His ways are definitely not our ways. But they are infinitely better because then no one is excluded and everyone is included. And therefore He is intetested and involvec with every tiny detail of our lives. Because that's what a loving Heavenly Father does. He looooves His children!! 💕
