The Passion
Read: Matthew 8:16-17 | The Servant Who Heals
Isaiah spoke of a Servant who would suffer. Jesus didn’t just fulfil that prophecy—He embodied it.
"He took up our infirmities and bore our diseases." (Matthew 8:17)
Matthew saw Jesus’ healing ministry as the living proof of Isaiah’s words. Jesus didn’t just come to suffer—He came to restore.
Every time He touched a leper, spoke to the outcast, or healed the sick, He was showing what the Suffering Servant came to do. His mission wasn’t just about carrying the pain of the world—it was about bringing wholeness in its place.
But this wasn’t just about physical healing. The sickness He came to bear ran deeper than disease. He carried the weight of sin itself.
When Jesus bore suffering, it wasn’t passive—it was intentional. He stepped into our brokenness to lift us out of it. He took on pain so we could find peace. He carried wounds so we could be healed.
And today, He still meets us in our suffering. He still offers wholeness. The Suffering Servant is also the Healer—and He is near to all who call on Him.
Promise Fulfilled:
Matthew quotes Isaiah’s prophecy to explain how Jesus' healing ministry fulfills the role of the suffering servant. Jesus' healings are a direct manifestation of the compassion and mercy He came to offer, fulfilling the ancient promise of a servant who would bear the burdens of humanity.
Jesus not only heals physical ailments but also brings spiritual restoration. His willingness to bear our infirmities and diseases highlights His deep empathy for human suffering and His power to heal both body and soul.
Through His actions, Jesus demonstrates that His role as the suffering servant is not just about enduring pain, but also about offering compassion, bringing healing, and providing hope for all who are broken.
In His ministry, Jesus makes clear that the suffering servant was not a passive figure, but an active one—one who steps into the pain of the world to bring restoration.

How can you reflect His healing love to those around you—offering compassion, restoration, and hope?
The Servant suffered, but He did not stay in sorrow. He brought healing with Him. And because of that, we are never left alone in our pain.

I see that Jesus’s ministry wasn’t to come and bring condemnation to people, but to demonstrate the love of the Father and to bring about the restoration of all things back to God.
I need to trust God in the area of my weaknesses.
I can choose to look beyond a moment and see a person and I can choose to extend mercy, remembering that he does the same for me.
I think that one of Jesus' intentions when He was here on earth was to reach out to people especially the unwanted, the displaced, the lost, the sick, the broken, and show them His Kingdom was for them too. Everyone is included. Through his death, He dealt with everything that could possibly separate us from God; sin, distorted mindsets, sickness, deception, everything and then announced It is Finished!! God's plan to reconcile man back to God again was completed.
